Effective 1 January 2007 we will be introducing a new electricity usage policy. This has been necessitated by a very small minority of our guests who have simply left the heat pumps (air contitioning and heating system) operating 24 hours a day during their stay, whether they were out of the flat, not using a room, or at night in winter, when they are in bed. If we did not try to discourage this, it would cause excessive wear and tear to this very expensive equipment.
As a result we have determined that "reasonable usage" of electricity is 30 kWh per day, and that this amount of usage will continue to be included in our all-inclusive rates. Any electricity consumption above this amount will be charged at the rate of 0.50 euros / kWh, which must be paid prior to departure.
We would like to stress that in setting what we considered to be "reasonable usage" we have tried to err on the side of generosity. Our aim is not to make our guests pay any additional amount. Our aim is to encourage responsible usage of the facilities we provide. We estimate that only one guest in the last two years would have had to pay this "Unreasonable Electricity Usage Surcharge".
